Here’s 10 tips and recommendations on how to prepare the photo set, equipment and product in order to perform many spot-on 360 animations. Time is money and therefore it is worth to invest some time at the beginning. It will pay off with efficient work (up to 10 presentations per hour) and great material ready to be published by online stores/auctions.
The studio used for 360 clothing photography presented on a mannequin should be at least 3mx5m. Walls and ceiling should be white and, if possible, window blinds or shades should be neutral which will help to better control the light.
The kit recommended by us includes continuous light lamps and the hero of the set – Twister along with the software. In order to control the camera and the rotating platform, a computer is necessary (no outline).
3. Preparing clothes and accessories for the photos.
In order to present clothing in the best possible way, it is worth taking a moment to clean them from dust and iron or steam. I recommend using lint rollers (ca. 1€) and steamers for easy and quick ironing in different positions (50-100€) also when the clothing is already worn by the mannequin.
4. Adjusting the clothing to the mannequin.
We have to remember that 360 photography presents our product from each side and angle which requires attention to detail. Not every piece of cloth will fit the mannequin perfectly; hence, it is worth to have 2 simple accessories. Although, according to the current fashion, pads have been a relic for quite some time, by fitting them on the shoulders, we can avoid unnecessary creases on the back. Dealing with female clothing, we come across a problem of chest size. No problem, it’s really simple! All you need is a correct cup size bra and all rumples and creases will miraculously disappear.
5. Camera/lens settings.
Before taking the car out of the garage, we check the lights, mirrors and controls. When working with a camera, it is good to have a similar habit in order to avoid mistakes.
- AF – autofocus should be set to OFF, in 360 photography it is better to set the focus manually using Live View.
- ISO (speed) should fit between 50 and 200 (high ISO has a negative impact on the quality of photographs),
- IS must be set to OFF, as in 360 photography we do not use image stabilization
- The camera is mounted on the tripod in vertical position.

6. Lighting the background and the photographed object
Correct backlighting is the key to successful presentation. The light should fill the whole frame evenly. Its level and direction is adjusted by the panels’ wings so that it does not hit the photographed object. Our mannequin may be illuminated by front lamps only (brak schematu, fot. studio).
Before you carry out the project, it is recommended to perform a few test photos and check them on the computer screen. The measure of success is simply our satisfaction with the effect.
It is an important element of the preparations because the presentation’s goal is to turn the product around its axis instead of whirling it in the frame. Hence, Twister platform should be in the center of the frame and the mannequin should be positioned exactly in the middle of the disk.
In ModeView control panel, we switch on “Constant Turn” function to simulate future presentation and see how the object behaves in the scene.
8. Making a series of photographs is the best part.
You can relax because MODE system works automatically without your involvement.
As the scene is set to vertical (portrait) position, saved photographs should be rotated by 90 degrees in ModeView editor.
10. One click will send the presentation to the ModeView server.
